Pursuant to Article 112 of the Rules on the Procedures for the (Co)financing and Assessment of Research Activities and on Monitoring the Implementation of Research Activities we announce a call for early-stage researcher candidates (m/f) for the year 2020 with selected mentors in the following research areas:
Chemistry – 3 YR (Nataša Zabukovec Logar, Andrej Perdih, Vid Simon Šelih)
Biotechnology – 3 YR (Helena Gradišar, Mojca Benčina, Mateja Manček Keber)
Chemical Engineering – 2 YR (Miha Grilc, Gregor Žerjav)
Materials – 3 YR (Alen Vižintin, Jan Bitenc, David Pahovnik)
Compute Intensive Methods and Applications – 1 YR (Daniel Svenšek)
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology – 1 YR (Marjetka Podobnik)
Candidates must meet the conditions referred to in Article 113 of the Rules on the Procedures for the (Co)financing and Assessment of Research Activities and on Monitoring the Implementation of Research Activities (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia No. 52/16):
• must have at least a university degree in a relevant field, obtained according to a study programme adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004, and an average grade of at least 8.00 for all examinations and tutorials (excluding the diploma thesis), and must meet the conditions for enrolment in postgraduate studies, or
• must have a degree obtained according to a second-cycle study programme in a relevant field, adopted in the Republic of Slovenia after 11 June 2004, and an average grade of at least 8.00 for all examinations and tutorials in the first-cycle study programme and the second-cycle study programme (including the assessment of the diploma and master’s thesis), or
• must hold a master's degree obtained according to a master’s study programme adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004, or
• must have, in accordance with the first, second and third indents, a comparable education obtained at universities outside Slovenia, and
• must be of an age up to and including 28 years (year of birth considered); the age limit is raised above 28 years if the researcher has already completed one or two years of a postgraduate third-cycle study programme without any financial support, where one year is added for each year completed.
If an early-stage researcher candidate enrols in the second or third year of a third-cycle study programme at the time of concluding the agreement, the average grade of the undergraduate study according to the study programme adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004, or the average grades of all first-cycle examinations and tutorials of the first-cycle and second-cycle study programmes are not relevant. If the candidate has completed a master's degree obtained according to a master’s study program adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004, the average grade of the undergraduate study programme is not relevant.
If the early-stage researcher candidate has taken parental leave of at least six months, one year being considered for one child, the age limit is raised above 28 years. The same applies in case of a longer, at least six-month documented absence due to illness of the candidate.
The Agency does not finance early-stage researcher candidates who, upon signing the agreement, enrol in an additional year of the third-cycle study programme or have already exhausted this status option, candidates who have already been financed through the Early-Stage Researchers Programme of the Agency, and candidates who have already completed their PhD studies.
The criteria for candidate assessment are as follows:
