Department Introduction

CTGCT is the first Center of Excellence in biomedicine in Slovenia with a unique approach combining mammalian cell synthetic biology and immunology to develop novel technologies for the development of gene and cell therapies and cancer immunotherapy. We focus on translating advanced therapies to clinical use.

We are starting with CTNNB1 syndrome and hematological cancers. There we are designing new molecules, doing cell culture for organoids and preclinical animal testing of selected therapeutics application. In the future, once our new facility is built, we will scale up and produce clinical-grade GMP reagents for use in patients in first-in-human clinical trials.

We have formed strategic alliances with our advanced partners at UCL, UMC Utrecht, Charité Berlin and TU Dresden to enable us to rapidly advance the development of gene and cell therapies. They will advise us on the translation of therapies, our research activities and how to set up a GMP facility to meet the requirements for first-in-human clinical practice. They will also provide support for GCT research and technologies.
